We stayed in our suite until it was time to call the guy who had probably slipped out for some archery lessons and then we did a repeat of the previous nightâs dinner. Jennifer said she was sorry that Derek and Annabelle had a different dinner time than we did. I told her that I could arrange to coordinate the same breakfast time and then I ducked. I managed to miss most of the impact of Jenniferâs elbow.

We ate another delicious meal of things I donât eat at home and headed back to the room to brush our teeth and give us a chance to check our hair to make sure it was combed properly. Then, we met our other twosome in the hall, and we headed to the room where the murderer might be lurking.
As soon as we walked into that room, I could see it wasnât what I expected. I expected a bunch of people standing around, moving from person to person, getting to know each other. Instead, we walked into the large room and were instructed to take seats, husband and wife together, but not across from anyone we know or have already met. And we werenât to talk to the people at our table, or any other, until we were instructed to do so. That gave me time to look over the room.
I looked at the tables. There were two seats on each side of a table, then a break of a couple of feet before the next table. There appeared to be enough seats to accommodate around one hundred or so people. Maybe a few more than that. We headed over to the wall on one side of the room. Lou and Thelma Lou sat a table up from us, not close enough that we could talk unless we leaned over and talked loudly. The room began to fill up. Two women sat down across from us. I wondered if they were a couple. They didnât appear to be, but they seemed to be together. More than likely, we would find out soon enough.
When the room seemed to be as full as it was going to get, I spotted Derek and Annabelle halfway across the room. I saw Rhonda Stephens, the bow and arrow expert, and her husband, Nick. Then I noticed a man and woman arose to get us started. Either that or they realized that the great detective Cy Dekker was in their midst, and they figured they might as well confess and get it over with. Their opening line didnât sound like a confession.
âThis is the first of our Meet and Greet sessions. You are to get to know the couple or individuals seated on the other side of your table. To help you, there is a question for you to answer to get you started. In a few minutes, a gong will sound. Those of you on the left side of your table,â they raised their hand to indicate that Jennifer and I were on the left side of our table, âwill then get up and move to the next table.
